KUCHING: The Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) displayed its spirit of sharing by giving out festive items and cash to 153 children from the Kuching Autistic Association (KAA).
Each student received a goodies bag containing items from their wish lists, along with a pocket money of RM50, creating a festive and joyous atmosphere at the Love-In-A-Box programme earlier.
SEDC chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Hussain said this year’s programme is specifically dedicated to the children of KAA, a centre catering to individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Cerebral Palsy, Development Delay, Down Syndrome, and Intellectual Disability, as part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives to spread the joy of Christmas festivities across all segments of society.
“Our Love-In-A-Box programme was first conceived because there are individuals among us who are less fortunate, underprivileged and require additional attention and support to partake in the festive spirit we celebrate, especially when Christmas is around the corner.
“As a corporate entity that is moving forward with dynamism and optimism,
it is part of our policy and philosophy to give back to the community. All the young members here today and the less privileged deserve to be happy and loved just like the rest of us,” he said during the programme held at KAA here today.
Abdul Aziz highlighted SEDC’s commitment to alleviate the plight of the less fortunate members of society through various programmes.
He said SEDC Sarawak has undertaken several community-related programmes and initiatives, including the fast/breaking ceremony with children from PERYATIM and the Love Pilgrimage Ceremony with school children.
“It is heartening for us to see that our CSR programmes have been well received ever since it was launched back in 2000 and has since become part of our annual tradition since 2004,” he added.
Also present were KAA president Dr Catherine Chen and founder president Roselind Wee, SEDC general manager Datuk Abdul Hadi Abdul Kadir and deputy general manager Rakayah Hamdan.
