155 motorcycle theft cases in Q1

PADAWAN: A total of 155 motorcycle theft cases were reported in the first quarter (January until March) of this year here.

This was disclosed by Padawan District Police chief, Supt Aidil Bolhassan during the handing over of duty ceremony between former acting Padawan Deputy Police chief ASP Muhamad Rizal Bin Alias and new Padawan Deputy Police chief, DSP Merbin Anak Lisa at IPD Padawan here, yesterday.

For the record, the number increased by 87 cases compared to 68 cases in the same period last year.

According to Aidil, from his previous meeting with Kuching District Police chief, ACP Abang Ahmad Abang Julai and Kota Samarahan District Police chief, DSP Lee Chong Chern, they have decided to launch a large-scale operation this week.

“Through this cooperation, we will conduct simultaneous large-scale operation to identify where  the stolen motorcycles have gone to and the type of motorcycle stolen the most. For our area, the ‘hot spots’ are Kota Sentosa and Batu Kawa,” said Aidil.

Aidil also urged the public to use a second lock to prevent their motorcycles from being stolen and to immediately call the nearest police station or emergency line 999 for proactive action by the police.

“If the case happen to you, you must immediately call the police, so that ‘alert alarm’ will be noted in all police stations and to police personnel who are on patrol.

“After the police are alerted on the case, immediate action will be taken to find the missing motorcycle or vehicle, and after you make a call to police, then you can make a police report,” he said.

The total number of stolen vehicle cases in the first quarter of this year was 192 and only 76 (about 40%) were found.
