MUKAH: A total of 158 projects have been proposed under the Rajang Delta Development Agency (RADDA), said Datuk Len Talif Salleh.
Len, who is also RADDA chairman, pointed out this was the result of a series of meetings and brainstorming taking into account the level of development priority in the area.
“We have held several lab sessions to generate new ideas to improve the planning process for the areas involved.
“Emphasis is placed on the provision of basic rural infrastructure, in addition to planning several short-term and long-term planning plans to transform rural areas, especially the RADDA areas to improve the well-being of the people.”
The Deputy Minister for Natural Resources and Urban Development said this while officiating the Tanjung Manis Administrative Building, here, yesterday (Nov 15).
According to Len, the 16-storey building worth approximately RM80 million, the construction of which began in 2018, has became a reality as the government administration centre stood magnificently in the middle of Tanjung Manis.
“What we are witnessing is the result of the government’s planning through the implementation of several projects such as the Batang Paloh Bridge, Batang Igan, and Batang Lebaan.
“Another game changer happening in Kuala Rajang will be the construction of the road connecting Sarikei and Tanjung Manis across Batang Rajang along 17 kilometres from Jalan Pasi Sarikei/Meradong to Jalan Sibu/Tanjung Manis at a cost of RM321 million.
“This project is expected to be completed next year and will shorten the journey from Sarikei to Tanjung Manis,” he said.
The Kuala Rajang assemblyman added that various industries have been developed in Tanjung Manis such as the timber industry, shipbuilding and repair industry, deep sea fisheries industry, Palm Oil Industrial Cluster (POIC), Central Oil Distribution Terminal (CODT), fishmeal processing and halal industry.
Len also addressed issues concerning the Kuala Rajang estuary which needs dredging to be done as it affects ships entering the port due to its shallow passage, resulting in difficulty to enter the port of Tanjung Manis.
He also called for a resettlement scheme to be implemented to accommodate workers who are currently working in Tanjung Manis but who still do not have their own houses.
