KUCHING: Sixteen of the top boxers from the Sarawak Amateur Boxing Association (SABA) will represent the state at the 2024 Malaysia Games (Sukma 2024).
Its president Datuk Rahman Lariwoo said 12 of the 16 boxers are men, and the remaining four are women.
He said the association has confidence in the boxers’ ability to deliver the best action during the nation’s biennial games.
“We will train the boxers in Kuching beginning in January 2024, focusing on a variety of skills throughout the several months before the competition begins.
“In addition, we are also targeting Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines for us to test the abilities of our boxers,” he said.
Elaborating further, Rahman stated that the association will take the boxers to Pontianak, in West Kalimantan, Indonesia, for training sessions and friendly matches before next year’s fasting month, followed by Thailand and the Philippines after the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.
Sukma 2024 will take place from August 17 to 24, and the boxing event will be held at the Sri Aman Indoor Stadium.
