Firemen about to tie up the legs of the male crocodile after covering its eyes.

LIMBANG: A 16-foot male crocodile, weighing about one tonne, was caught in an industrial area near Limbang Housing after  heavy rain early yeserday morning.

The discovery of the giant reptile in the middle of the town here shocked the local residents.

Head of the Fire and Rescue Department here, Tawang Lingem said  eight firemen led by Fire Officer, Mohd Ali Mohd Salleh rushed to the scene to  catch the crocodile after  being alerted by the public at 7.36am.

The firemen took about 30 minutes to catch the crocodile in an operation witnessed by many curious members of the public.

Three members of the Civil Defence Force also assisted in the operation.

“We caught the crocodile by covering its eyes and tying up all its legs. We also used a forklift belonging to a member of the public to lift the reptile onto the back of our lorry. The crocodile was brought to our department before it was surrendered to the Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) for further  action, “ Tawang told the media yesterday.

Meanwhile, according to Bernama, the incident, which went viral on social media, was the first case that ever occurred in Limbang town.
