16 found to be drug positive in roadblock ops

KUCHING: A joint roadblock operation last night (Dec 31) resulted in the arrest of 16 men who were found positive for drugs.

Dubbed Ops Ambang Merdeka Tahun 2021, it involved the Sarawak Road Transport Department (JPJ), Sarawak Traffic Police and National Anti-Drugs Agency (Nada) Sarawak Enforcement and Safety Unit.

The roadblocks from 8pm to 11pm were set up at two locations, namely at the Kuching-Kota Samarahan Expressway and Jalan Kung Phin.

Sixteen persons were found to be drug positive – 15 were positive for syabu and the other for cannabis.

The suspects, aged 20 to 40, are under arrest and will be investigated under Section 3(1) of Drug Dependants Act 1983.
