SRI AMAN: A 16-foot-long reticulated python was captured after it invaded a pet enclosure and devoured a pet monkey in Kampung Pulau Seduku, Lingga yesterday (Mar 5).

The incident came to light around 7.20 am when the owner, preparing to feed his monkeys, was stunned to discover a python inside the enclosure, having already ingested one of the monkeys.

Driven by panic and fear for the remaining monkeys’ safety, the owner quickly alerted the Sri Aman Civil Defence Force (APM) for assistance in dealing with the python.

A four-man team was promptly dispatched to the scene, about 32km away.

Upon arrival, they found that the reptile was still in the pet enclosure, presumably due to being full from its meal.

It took them about 15 minutes to extract the python from the enclosure using snake tongs.

The reptile was later released back into its natural habitat, away from the villages.
