KOTA PADAWAN: A total of 16 applications for Sarawakian Bumiputera recognition have been approved in the Padawan area, with another 54 still under process.
Mambong assemblyman Datuk Dr Jerip Susil said the recognition process would address challenges faced by those from interracial marriages.
“This application is not for ‘Native Status’.
“It confirms applicants’ eligibility for a certificate as Sarawakian citizens.
“This applies to individuals with one Sarawakian parent, like Iban or Bidayuh, who are married to a non-Sarawakian. The certificate will be beneficial in future matters related to land ownership and others,” he said during a presentation ceremony at the Padawan sub-district office today (June 14).
Dr Jerip, who is also the Deputy Transport Minister, stressed the importance of utilising state government allocations for development purposes in Padawan villages.
“The Unit of Integrity and Ombudsman will periodically inspect how allocations are used by village committees.
“We urge associations to be prepared to provide details on bank accounts and expenditure to ensure proper use of these funds,” he added.
On a separate note, five churches in Padawan received a total of RM1.67 million from the Unit For Other Religion (UNIFOR). These include St Andrew Catholic Church Kpg Sipitang, St Matthew Church Kampung Bunuk, St Gregory Chapel Kapung Giam, Sida Petag Church, and St Paul Bunuk Church.
