SERIAN: A plantation workers’ quarters here at Jalan Melikin, Balai Ringin, was razed to the ground this morning (Nov 6).

Eight families comprising 16 individuals who managed to get out to safety were left homeless as a result of the 9.28am incident.

Firemen from Serian station were alerted of the incident and a team was promptly despatched to the scene, about 44km from the station.

At the scene, they confirmed that an eight-door workers’ quarters was indeed destroyed.

Despite the residents losing their homes, they banded together to douse the flames using the plantation’s extinguishing equipment.

No injuries or casualties were reported during the incident.

The cause of the fire and losses incurred is yet to be ascertained.

Once the situation was deemed safe, the team wrapped up the operation and departed back to their station.
