KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 16 new positive Covid-19 cases a new cluster — the Seladah Cluster — on Sunday (Oct 25), bringing the cumulative total to 796 cases.
According to the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), Kuching recorded 15 cases and Serian recorded one.
From the 16 new cases, seven cases were screened after it was learned that all of them had travel history to high-risk areas.
“Cases 781, 782 and 787 — two local woman and one local man — had travelled to Selangor, while Case 783 is a local woman who had travelled to Sungai Petani in Kedah.
“Both Cases 784 and 785, who are mother and daughter, had travelled to Kuantan, Pahang to attend a wedding ceremony.
“Case 786 is a student at a university in Kuala Lumpur.
“All seven cases tested positive after undergoing the rT-PCR Covid19 test for the second time on Oct 23 and have been admitted to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for treatment.
“The cases underwent quarantine at designated centres in Kuching upon their return via the same airplane on Oct 14.”
The committee also disclosed that the Baki Cluster recorded seven new cases and contact tracing found four new cases in the Seladah Cluster.
“Contact tracing recorded Cases 788, 789, and 790 as new cases in the Baki Cluster. The cases had close contact with Cases 768 and 770 after attending a family gathering on October 4 and 5.
“In the Seladah Cluster, four new cases were detected— Cases 791, 793, 794 and 795. Three cases are close family members to Case 771 while one involves a customer who has bought cakes from Case 771,” it said.
On Cases 792 and 796, SDMC said the cases are local men who visited longhouses in Sematan every weekend.
“These cases underwent Covid-19 screening at a government health facility in Kuching on October 23 after having close contact with a positive case. Both tested positive on October 24,” it added.
There was only one recovery case as of Sunday, bringing the total recovery cases in Sarawak to 728 or 91.46 percent.
Fifty cases are still receiving treatment, with 43 in SGH and seven in Miri Hospital.
Eighteen new persons-under-investigation (PUI) were recorded and four are still awaiting lab results.
The total number of deaths in Sarawak remains at 19.
