KAPIT: Fifteen male suspects and a female suspect between 19 and 39 years old were picked up by Kapit police here for various offences under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
The Narcotics Department from Kapit police headquarters here conducted two operations from July 20 to August 4 at various spots to pick up the suspects.
Operasi Bersepadu JSJN was held on July 20 while Operasi Ice Breaker from July 29 until August 4.
During the operations, the police also seized 1.71g of methamphetamine worth RM370.
All the suspects were remanded by the Kapit District Magistrate’s Court.
The police are investigating three cases under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 and 16 cases under 12 (1) (a) of the Act.
If convicted under Section 12 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952, the penalty is two years’ jail. For an offence under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952, the penalty is RM1,000 fine or not more than five years’ jail or both.
