THE federal government has constructed 16 operational telecommunication towers under the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) in Krian.
Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication (Telecommunication) Datuk Liwan Lagang said this in response to Friday Belik (GPS-Krian) during question time on the number of towers that have been built in his constituency.
He said the Sarawak and federal governments have allocated a total of 27 new 4G telecommunication towers under the Sarawak Multimedia Authority Rural Transformation (SMART) project and the National Digital Network Plan (JENDELA).
“Two of the towers are currently in operation, while the remaining 25 towers are in various stages of implementation.
“The new towers are scheduled to be operational in stages until the first quarter of 2024,” he said when asked on plans to increase the number of existing towers in the near future.
