SIBU: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan branch, led by its chairman Senator Robert Lau Hui Yew, today delivered essential items to nine longhouses in Kampung Rassau here, which is currently under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO).

The branch said a total of 166 families received the aid.

“The aid comprised rice, cooking oil, eggs, canned sardines, vermicelli, fresh vegetables and face masks,” it said.

It said Kampung Rassau is not well-connected to urban centres as its people have to pass through oil palm plantations and are subject to weather conditions if they want to safely travel to the city.

“Because of that, the residents had asked us for assistance because of the EMCO.

“The Sarawak government also provided food assistance to every resident in Kampung Rassau including civil servants stationed there. The aid was delivered by the Mukah division welfare office,” said the SUPP Bawang Assan branch.

It added that the Mukah division Health Department had carried out the first swab test on 308 people last week and 27 of them tested positive for Covid-19.
