KUCHING: The Ministry of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK) Sarawak enforcers confiscated 168 boxes of fake branded shoes valued at RM8,400 in a raid at the on-going sales carnival at Stadium Perpaduan in Petra Jaya here yesterday.
According to the state KPDNKK Chief Enforcement Officer, Abdul Hafiz Abdul Rahim, the raid, which started at 3.30pm, was carried out after receiving complaints from the public saying there were fake branded items sold there.
He pointed out that the traders will be charged under Section 8(2) of the Trade Description Act 2011 which carries a maximum fine of RM10,000 for a pair of shoes or three years in jail or both upon conviction.
Meanwhile, for corporations, a maximum fine of RM15,000 for each pair of shoes will be charged for the first offence and RM35,000 for the second offence for each pair of shoes.
