THE aftermath of the fire in Ulu Sungai Entangai, Kapit.

KAPIT: A 17-door longhouse in Ulu Sungai Entangai here was destroyed by fire about 4.00pm on Saturday, leaving 104 residents homeless.

The fire at Rumah Messop Tawi was believed to have started from the kitchen in one of the units.

It was reported that one of the residents, a 50-year-old woman sustained minor injuries in the fiery incident and was later taken to a clinic in Nanga Ibau for treatment.

It was also reported that the estimated loss was RM1.36 million and the victims had moved to a nearby longhouse which is still under construction.

Meanwhile, Kapit Deputy Resident, Galong Luang and District Officer, Elvis Didit who learnt of the incident paid a visit to the fire victims yesterday and sent immediate assistance to them.

As at press time, Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) Kapit branch and Kapit Lions Club are making arrangement to transport blankets, cloth and food assistance to the victims through the district’s Social Welfare Department.
