MUKAH: Seventeen family members of those who have died received  Social Security Organisation (PERKESO) Management Benefits here on Monday.

The presentation  of the cheques for a total amount of  RM8,500 was held at Mukah PEKESO.

On hand to give away the cheques to the qualified heirs  of the insured  people who died after July 1 last year was  Tellian State Assemblyman, Yussibnosh Balo.

Also present were PERKESO Mukah Manager, Michael AK Blayong and his staff.

In his speech at the function, Yussibnosh advised the recipients to use the benefits  and monthly pensions of the deceased wisely for the future of their families.

He also thanked PERKESO for increasing the funeral benefit from RM1500 to RM2000 for all the death cases after  July 1, 2016.

“I would  also like to express my appreciation to PERKESO for opening the branch office in this fast growing town for the convenience of the locals as it is just at our own doorsteps,” he said, adding that in the past, the locals had to go elsewhere including   Sibu.

It is learnt that the funeral benefit is paid to the qualified heirs of the insured who die because of working accidents or disasters.

However, if  the deceased do not have any family members or next of kin, the benefit will be given to those who financed  all the funeral costs.

Hence,   employers who employ one or more workers have been urged to register with PERKESO, and if they fail  to do so, they will be compounded and even charged.

PERKESO also introduced the Self-employed disaster scheme effective   June 1 this year, which is aimed at   taxi drivers or others who provide similar services.

And this protection is under the provision of Self-employed Social Security Act 2017 and the protection period will be 12 months from the date of the contribution.

For that,  all the taxi drivers or the relevant services providers in  the country and especially in Mukah Division are urged to register with PERKESO.
