KUCHING: Seventeen foreigners had their sleep abruptly disturbed by immigration enforcement officers during an early morning raid today (Nov 26).
Acting on public tip-off and gathered intelligence, the Kuching Immigration Enforcement Unit raided a shared residence, houses workers of a housing project, at a construction site in Matang.
The Sarawak Immigration Department said a total of 21 individuals were inspected for their documentations and of the figure, 17 were taken into custody.
Fourteen men and three women were caught for overstaying, lacking valid travel documents and lacking valid permits to stay in Malaysia.
The case is being investigated under the Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
The public is encouraged to report any information regarding the presence of undocumented migrants in their areas through online channels or directly to the nearest Immigration Enforcement Office.
