MIRI: The Immigration Enforcement Unit (UPI) detained 17 foreign individuals for various offences, such as working without valid permits and misusing permits on (Mar 28) during their series of raids around Miri.

Three locals were also detained for further investigation for employing foreigners without valid work permits.

“Acting on public complaints, UPI inspected two food premises in Boulevard Commercial Centre and Taman Tunku Miri, which were found to employ foreign workers without valid work permits.

“On the same day, inspections were also carried out at a private residence in Taman Jelita undergoing renovation, suspected of employing foreign contractors for the renovation process,” it said in a Facebook post.

Investigations into all cases are currently underway, conducted in accordance with Section 15(1)(c) and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, as well as Regulation 11(7)(a) of the Immigration Regulations 1963.

Employers and employees are strongly advised to adhere to the law by obtaining valid work permits to avoid legal repercussions.

Members of the public with information of the presence of unauthorised foreign nationals are encouraged to report directly to the nearest Immigration office or lodge a complaint through official channels.
