KUCHING: 17 new closed-circuit television (CCTVs) have been installed at the Kenyalang Wet Market by the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) to provide better security for the traders and public there.
“There have been a lot of thefts at the market and MBKS together with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) are taking action by installing the CCTVs. The police are doing their regular patrols,” Minister of Local Government, Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian told a press conference during the High Profile Community Policing walkabout held at the market yesterday.
Sim urged the public to report to the police or council if they had any information on the thefts or if they saw any suspicious figures.
Meanwhile, Kuching District Police chief, ACP Abang Ahmad Abang Julai urged the public to continue acting as the ears and eyes of the police.
He said the police would act accordingly based on any information received from the public.
“We will continue to work together with the community here to ensure that the Kenyalang area continues to be a White Area,” added Abang Ahmad.
MBKS Mayor, Datuk James Chan also spoke. He praised the traders in the market for their cooperation in taking care of the place.
He thanked Sim for being “people-centric”.
