MIRI: Seventeen projects under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) will be implemented in Bekenu constituency this year.
Assemblywoman Datuk Rosey Yunus said all these projects came under last year’s provisions and had been approved.
She told this after attending a briefing session with contractors, the Public Works Department (PWD), and officers from Subis District Council regarding the RTP projects on Wednesday.
During the briefing, Rosey also explained how RTP funds work.
“Elected representatives do not receive the funds in cash but are required to submit a list of projects to be implemented under the RTP to the Resident’s Office and implementing agencies (such as PWD) ,”she pointed out.
Funds for these projects would be channelled directly to the relevant parties, she said, adding RM5 million is to implement community-based projects.
She added that the Sarawak government had also put in place a strict system to monitor how assemblymen manage their RTP allocations through Sarawak Implementation Monitoring Unit to prevent abuse of funds.
