KUCHING: Sarawak has reported one Covid-19 related death, and 178 new positive cases on Sunday (Mar 14), bringing the state’s case tally to 12,451.
Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the 90th death in the state was Case 8,606 — a 61-year-old local man.
The committee said the case was admitted to Sibu Hospital with flu, coughing and respiratory problems. A RT-PCR test was taken on Feb 22 and the test result came back as positive on Feb 23.
SDMC said the man’s health deteriorated and he was pronounced dead on March 14. The case had comorbidities such as diabetes and nasopharynx cancer.
Meanwhile, on the 178 positive cases, 35 were reported in Bintulu District, Miri (32), Sibu (27), Song (23), Kuching (21), Kapit (18), four cases each in Meradong and Sri Aman, three cases in Kanowit, two cases each in Lawas and Samarahan, and one case each in Betong, Julau, Mukah, Pusa, Sebauh, Serian, and Tatau.
The committee said of the 178 new cases reported, 20 exhibited signs and symptoms of Covid-19 during screening.
SDMC informed that a total of 134 cases of those detected were individuals who were directed to undergo quarantine orders at the designated centres. They said these comprise 125 identified as close contacts to positive Covid-19 cases, six returned from abroad (Import A), and three people had just returned from high-risk areas (Import B).
On the overall summary of the cases, SDMC said 85 involved screenings of individuals who had contact with positive cases with 12 of them showing symptoms, 40 (asymptomatic) involved screenings of persons in existing active clusters, 36 were other screenings at health facilities, eight were symptomatic cases screened at health facilities, six returned from abroad with four returning from Japan and one each from China and Abu Dhabi, and three were had returned from other states in the country and these cases are categorised as an Import B cases.
