BINTULU: Some 178 students across Bintulu participated in the annual ‘Reimagining Innovation Inter-School Competition’, organised by PETRONAS Carigali Sarawak Gas (SK Gas), in collaboration with the Natural Resources of Environmental Board (NREB) Bintulu, Education Office of Bintulu, Bintulu Development Authority, and Department of Environment Bintulu.

The competition this year, held at the Bintulu Civic Centre, comprised of three categories; ‘Innovative Competition’, ‘Innovative Poster Design’, as well as ‘Science & Innovation Story Telling’.

The first two categories were opened to students of institutes of higher learning and secondary schools, while the third category was for primary school students. Speaking at the event, representative for Head of PETRONAS Carigali Sarawak Gas, Ariffin Zulkiply said that the competition’s aim is to cultivate innovative and creative ideas among the younger generations in Bintulu by using recycled items. “This will also help to reduce domestic waste by turning them into something useful,” he said.

Also present at the prize giving ceremony were Controller of NREB Sarawak, Peter Sawal; Deputy Resident of Bintulu, Hussaini Hakim; heads of government agencies as well as local associations and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in Bintulu.
