Immigration officers arrest and inspect foreigners for their documentation in operations held around Kuching.

KUCHING: The Sarawak Immigration Department arrested 18 individuals of various foreign nationalities on Monday (July 1).

The operations targeted eateries, automotive workshops, convenience stores and housing areas around the city.

Acting on public complaints and gathered intelligence, the Kuching Immigration Enforcement Unit inspected a total of 50 individuals for their documentation and of these, 18 were taken into custody.

They were found to be overstaying, lacking valid travel documents and lacking valid permits to stay in Malaysia and are being investigated under the Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

The public is encouraged to provide information on the presence of undocumented migrants in their areas through online channels or directly to the nearest Immigration Enforcement Office.
