18 slapped with compounds

KUCHING: Eighteen individuals comprising 15 women and three men were each issued with a RM1,000 compound for failing to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) last Saturday.

District police chief ACP Awang Din Awang Gani said that the SOP compliance operations was carried out from 10am to 12am.

The operations included an inspection at a bistro in Ewe Hai Street which resulted in seven individuals being compounded for failing to comply with the SOPs.

He added that those compounded included the premises caretaker who had failed to provide temperature scanners, customer logbook and hand sanitisers; and six patrons who did not practise social distancing.

“Meanwhile, separate inspections at Gula Apong Ice Cream Bus Stop Kiosk, Jalan Gambier, and Waterfront, Jalan Main Bazaar found 11 individuals gathering and failing to practise social distancing.

“All individuals aged 18 to 40 were given a 14-day period from the date of the compound issued to pay the fines at Kuching division health office,” he said in a statement.

The individuals were compounded in accordance to the Regulation 3 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) (No. 7) Regulations 2020.
