KAPIT: Some 186 kindergarten children from five pre-schools here took part in a colouring contest organised by Kapit Chiang Chuan Association at the Civic Centre here last Sunday afternoon.
The five pre-schools were Ching Hua Kindergarten, Methodist Private Kindergarten, Hock Ing Methodist Kindergarten, Unity and National Integration Kindergarten and SK Kampung Baru’s Kindergarten.
The prize-giving ceremony was officiated at by Bukit Goram Assemblyman, Jefferson Jamit Unyat.
In his speech, Jamit commended Chiang Chuan Association for organising the colouring contest which attracted 186 children.
“This is certainly a very meaningful activity for the children. I am particularly impressed that parents whose children are participating in this colouring contest are present. This is something we encourage and I hope other non-governmental organisations (NGOs) can also organise activities for the kindergarten pupils to show their talents. It can be a colouring contest, singing or reading as long as the activity involves the children,” said Jamit.
During the function, Jamit also announced a government grant of RM5,000 to Kapit Chiang Chuan Association.
Among those present were chairperson of Kapit Chiang Chuan Association, Sng Geok Yien, Kapitan Yap Hui Le, secretary Teo Tian Chai and youth chief, Gary Ngu.
Amanda Cecelia of Chung Hua Kindergarten was the first prize winner in the colouring contest with Alexon of Unity and Integration Kindergarten and Alex Sayer of Unity and Integration Kindergarten winning the second prize and third prize, respectively.
The three consolation prizes winners were Angelina Liew, Christine Richard and Chris Nyuat. They received their prizes from the association chairperson, Sng Geok Yien
