BALAI RINGIN: The Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) has outlined plans to add 19 border control posts in Sabah and Sarawak.
According to Deputy Minister of Defence Adly Zahari this initiative involves the construction of 14 border control posts in Sarawak and the establishment of five such posts in Sabah.
“The construction will be carried out incrementally, with our aim to have these posts fully completed by the year 2025.
“In total, we anticipate that 36 border control posts will be operational by the conclusion of 2025,” he said during a press conference during his working visit to the Tactical Base of the JPG Camp in Balai Ringin, Saturday.
In attendance was Major General Malek Razak Sulaiman, who serves as the Commander of the 5th Division.
Adly noted that the Sarawak government plays a crucial role, particularly in offering land for the construction of border control posts.
“This support has proven invaluable to the Ministry of Defence in advancing these projects.
“I have full confidence that the allocation of RM69.7 million from the federal government, coupled with the assistance provided by the Sarawak Premier in addressing land-related issues, will enhance the quality of our border posts and align with our objective of implementing 36 posts by 2025,” he said.
He highlighted that his ministry took into consideration current factors when expanding border control posts in terms of requirements of both states due to developments in Nusantara, Kalimantan, Indonesia.
He emphasised that the decision to add posts would be contingent on assessments conducted by the army and information periodically obtained by the ministry.
“If there arises a need for additional posts, even from the state government, we will evaluate it and give priority to those requirements,” he said.
