KUCHING: Nineteen individuals were nabbed in 16 raids during an operation to fight against illegal online gaming and gambling activities on Saturday.
State CID chief, SAC Dennis Leong Soon Kuai in a statement said the raids were conducted in seven districts namely Kuching, Padawan, Sri Aman, Sarikei, Sibu, Bintulu and Miri.
“In the raids, 19 individuals comprising 17 males and two females were nabbed. They are aged between 17 and 51 years,” he said.
Dennis added that during the raids 12 handphones, three laptops, stationery and RM3,696.00 were seized. “Nine individuals were nabbed for operating illegal lotteries, five for online gambling, four for playing ‘holo’ and a bookie,” he said.
The 19 individuals are being investigated under the Common Gaming Houses Act, 1953 and Betting Act, 1953.
