19 schools affected by flood in Marudi

A school has been affected by the floods in Marudi Division.

MARUDI: Nineteen schools and 25 areas in Marudi Division were affected by flood following heavy rains and high tides, as of 10.30am this morning.

There were no temporary evacuation centres opened during the period, said Miri Division Disaster Operations Centre, while Miri and Subis districts were not affected.

For Beluru, it said that four schools and one area were flooded with overcast weather while in Telang Usan, reports stated that eight schools and six areas were affected by floods and overcast weather.

“Seven schools namely SK Long Panai, SK Sungai Arang, SK Kuala Tutoh, SK Benawa, Kampung Kuala Tutoh, SK Benawa, Sk=K Pengelyan and SMK Tutoh Apoh including 19 areas were affected by floods.

“The other areas namely Kampung Long Maro, Rumah Jipun Kampung Baru Tanjung Upar, Rumah Vincent Kampung Tanjung Upar, Rumah Philip Tanjong Opar, Kampung Lubok Nibong Tumau, Kampung Narum and Long Panai Health Clinic are also affected,” it said.

Meanwhile, in Mulu Sub-District, SK Penghulu Baya Malllang, Rumah Lajang Sungai Linei Hilir, Rumah Anthony Sungai Linei, Kampung Long Patan Batu Belah dan Kampung Bitoh Lala Long Pahlo are areas that are affected by the flood.

The operations centre predicted that water levels in every area involved will continue to rise along with heavy rains.
