KUCHING: Bandar Kuching Member of Parliament Dr Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen recently visited a needy family in his constituency whose breadwinner fainted at home and was rushed to the hospital.
The man is still in a coma and said to be in critical condition.
“The husband is still currently in a coma, leaving his 32-year-old wife and three young children facing all kinds of uncertainties.
“After being notified of the family’s situation, my team and I visited them and handed over some contributions to help them with the necessary expenses,” he said on Monday (March 28).
He assured that his team would follow up with the family and if needed, they would also assist in applying for welfare aid under the Social Welfare Department (JKM).
Separately, Dr Yii said his team would also continue to respond to the needs and requests by the public, especially in view of the high number of COVID-19 cases.
“We continue to provide free sanitisation services for the people and will assist in their various requests. This is because we love, we care, and we serve,” he said.
Meanwhile, Dr Yii and his team visited the to Community-based Children Rehabilitation Centre (PDK) Sentuhan Kasih Kuching along Jalan Ong Tiang Swee on Saturday (March 26).
A total of 200 sets of COVID-19 self-test kits and two sets of sanitiser spray machines were handed over to provide a safer environment for the staff, volunteers, and children of the centre.
“PDK Sentuhan Kasih is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) dedicated to helping needy students with special needs to provide rehabilitation services, allowing them to learn some skills independently and to help them integrate into society.
“This contribution will enable the staff to test themselves daily and be sure that they are safe before handing the children with special needs,” he said.
He noted that raising a child with special needs was not an easy task and many families found it difficult to provide for such children with a wide range of special needs.
“In view of this, the establishment of special children’s rehabilitation centre is very important to provide them with additional rehabilitation support and life training to enable them to live a good life like everyone else,” he added.
