KUCHING: A mother and her son suffered burns after a fire razed their house at RPR Landeh, 10th Mile here yesterday.

Siburan Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) station chief Sulaiman Ahmat said the department received a distress call regarding a fire incident at 3.50am.

“The mother, 51, and her 18-year-old son have burns over 13 and 18 per cent of their body respectively after attempting to escape the blaze.

“They suffered burns to their hands, faces and bodies,” he said when contacted yesterday.

He said the neighbours helped to evacuate the victims from their home upon noticing flames from the living room.

“Both victims were taken to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) by the ambulance for treatment,” he said.

Firefighters from Siburan and Batu Lintang managed to put out the fire by 5.15am.
