SARIKEI: Twenty foreigners of various foreign nationalities were picked up during a series of operations conducted around Sarikei and Julau towns on Sunday (Apr 21).
The Sarawak Immigration Department said that the raids were conducted at nine locations with presence of undocumented migrants such as shared residences, temporary tents, workers’ quarters and private residences.
Acting on public tip-offs and intelligence gathering, the Sarikei Immigration Enforcement Unit inspected the documentations of 53 individuals in multiple operations.
Of the figure, 20 were taken into custody for committing various offences such as overstaying and lacking valid travel documents.
The foreigners were arrested under the Immigration Act 1959/63.
The public has been urged to report the presence of undocumented migrants in their areas through online channels or directly to the nearest Immigration Enforcement Office.
