MIRI: A 15-year-old girl experienced the worst nightmare of her life yesterday when she got trapped inside an elevator in the camp of the 12th Battalion of the General Operations Force (GOF) here.

According to Miri Fire and Rescue Department chief Supt Law Poh Kiong, nine firemen rushed to the camp around 9.10am.

The girl was trapped on the second floor of one of the buildings.

It took the rescuers less than 20 minutes to get her out of the elevator by prying open the elevator door using a crowbar.

The girl did not suffer any physical injury but was taken to Miri Hospital for severe shock.

It is said that the girl was on the way up to her unit on the fourth floor of the building when the elevator malfunctioned at level two.

Luckily for her, the elevator intercom was in good order, so she was able to call for help.
