KUCHING: A 20-year-old unemployed individual has been placed on a 12-month good behaviour bond by the Magistrates’ Court after admitting to the abuse of methamphetamine in March of this year.
Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan issued the order on yesterday (July 18) following a thorough examination of the social report prepared by the Social Welfare Department for the young offender from Siniawan, Bau.
The offence took place at the Padawan District Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (IPD) Padawan, around 1.40am on March 28. As a result, the young offender faced charges under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, with penalties specified in Section 15(1) of the same act.
Upon conviction, the offender could be subject to a maximum fine of RM5,000, imprisonment for up to two years, and supervised by an officer for a period of not less than two years and not more than three years.
According to case details, a preliminary urine screening test conducted at the Padawan IPD Investigation Division during the accused’s arrest yielded positive results for drugs.
Subsequently, the urine sample was sent to the Pathology Department of Sarawak General Hospital, confirming the presence of methamphetamine and amphetamine in the accused’s system.
Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang prosecuted the case while the accused was not represented by legal counsel.
