MUKAH: Police arrested a 20-year-old unemployed youth for possessing 0.32g of methamphetamine drug (syabu) with a street value of RM50 at a house here on Wednesday (Oct 20).
Mukah police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said a police team arrested the local youth who was suspected to be involved in drug abuse activities.
He added body check on the suspect uncovered a small straw tube containing crystalline substances, suspected to be methamphetamine and weighing about 0.32g clenched in his right palm.
“The suspect was brought to the police station for further investigation, and initial urine test found that he was drug positive,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (Oct 20).
Initial investigation found that the suspect had been involved in drug abuse activities since 2018. He obtained his drug supply from a man called ‘John’ in Sungai Alo area.
The suspect revealed that the last time he obtained his drug supply from John was on Oct 18.
Muhamad Rizal said police would continue to conduct surveillance in Sungai Alo area in efforts to nab John.
The suspect is currently in police custody pending application for remand order by the investigation officer today (Oct 21).
The case is being investigated under Section 12(2) and 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act, 1952.
If convicted under Section 12(2), the suspect would be sentenced to not more than five years in jail or fined not more than RM100,000, or both under Section 12(3) of the Act.
Section 15(1)(a), provides for a fine of not more than RM5,000 or up to two years in jail.
