SIBU: More than 200 people from Sibu district took part in the ‘Special Olympics Sarawak Sibu Chapter Inclusive Day’ and ‘Special Olympics Got Talent’ held at University College of Technology Sarawak (UCTS) on Saturday.

Education and Technological Research Assistant Minister Dr Annuar Rapaee officiated at the opening ceremony yesterday.

According to Special Olympics Sarawak (SOS) Sibu Chapter, the aim for programme was to promote understanding among normal children towards their friends with special needs.

“Through this inclusive play-day programme, we together with the Sibu District Education Office (PPD) are actually creating opportunities for students and their special friends to communicate, collaborate and respect each other,” it added.

“All the games and activities give each child a distinct role and requires the children to help one another,” it added in its press statement.

At the same function, six teams of dancers from five secondary schools and the Methodist Care Centre showcased their talent in dancing.

The top winner will win represent Sibu at the state-level ‘Special Olympics Got Talent Competition’ in Kuching.
