SIBU: Out of 6,493 test samples collected from the Covid-19 swab tests of residents of Town Villa flats and housing areas in Sibu Jaya 204 have tested positive for Covid-19.

This matter was revealed by State Health director Dr Chin Zin Hing when contacted today (Feb 21).

Earlier, he was asked on the development of swab tests performed in the two areas which were imposed by the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) from February 12 to 25.

The EMCO was implemented following the increase in positive Covid-19 cases in Sibu Jaya thus playing a role in breaking the chain of infection.

On the number of samples collected during active case detection (ACD) conducted last Saturday in Zone 7 Tiong Hua at the Sibu Municipal Council (MPS) Multi-Storey Parking Building, Dr Chin said 458 test samples had been collected.

“The results for last Saturday’s screening involving Jalan Tiong Hua Zone 7 Zone are expected to be known by tomorrow (Monday),” he said.

The ACD for Zone 7 continued today at the venue.

Sibu Division Disaster Management Committee (SDDMC) coordinator Dr Annuar Rapaee said the Health Ministry (MOH) will continue to implement ACD in areas under MPS jurisdiction following the increase of positive Covid-19 cases in urban areas.

The Local Government and Housing Assistant Minister also said that there is a reduction in the number of positive Covid-19 cases in rural areas, especially in the Sibu Jaya area.
