BINTULU: A total of 2,000 seedlings of the engkabang jantong (Shorea macrophylla) tree were successfully planted by 200 participants comprising Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Bintulu Campus students and staff from Sime Darby Plantation Bintulu.
The activity was part of the Forest Tree Planting & Riparian Buffer Zone Conservation Program @ Sarawak Region event held at Rajawali Golf and Country Club here, yesterday.
The programme was jointly-organised by Sime Darby Plantation and Yayasan, UPM Bintulu Campus and Forest Department Sarawak (FDS).
Present to officiate at the event were FDS deputy director Jack Liam; Sime Darby Plantation Sarawak Region chief executive officer Rajkumar V Ramasamy; and UPM Bintulu Campus’s Head of Strategic and Corporate Communication Division Dr Mohamad Maulana Magiman.
The same programme also witnessed the exchange of a letter of agreement between Sime Darby Plantation with the university on conservation programme in northern Sarawak.
