KUCHING: Nearly 2,000 people from Petra Jaya parliamentary constituency received the 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) vouchers at the Customs Academy in Matang, yesterday.
The BR1M vouchers are for those who have yet to have a bank account, but eligible to receive the aid.
Works Minister Datuk Seri Haji Fadillah Yusof, who is Member of Parliament for Petra Jaya, said the BR1M voucher distribution was to help the recipients to receive the aid.
“We understand that many would not have the time during weekdays to make their way to the bank as they would also be working.
“Instead, we bring the bank to them. Distribution such as this was done in previous years and I am glad that everything is going smoothly,” said Fadillah, who was accompanied by Tupong State Assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman.
Meanwhile, many recipients when met during the distribution of the vouchers said they would spend the money to buy daily needs.
Masura Adam, 71, from Kampung Bintawa Tengah, said this was her third time receiving BR1M.
“I will use the money to buy my daily needs, especially adult diapers that I need to use everyday,” she said.
Peah Along, 44, from Bandar Baru Semariang, said she was happy that her second application for BR1M was approved.
“I would like to express my gratitude to the government for giving BR1M to help us to face the rising cost of living.
“I also like to point out that the venue chosen this time is much better and more comfortable for all of us and everything is running smoothly without any interference,” said Peah, who received BR1M under the single category.
Mohd Asmizan Irawan, 20, from Kampung Kudei, said he would use the money to buy essential items for his family.
“BR1M definitely helps those who are in need. I believe the government is doing many things for the people,” said Asmizan, who was receiving the aid for the first time.
