SIBU: The Sarawak General Operations Force’s (GOF) success in seizing contraband items worth RM49mil last year has earned praise from the nation’s top cop.

Commander SAC Datuk Khaw Kok Chin, speaking at the 10th Battalion’s monthly parade yesterday, said Inspector- General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador had congratulated GOF on its success in thwarting smuggling activities as well as the arrests of several suspects.

SAC Khaw added that the IGP had said he would be presenting certificates of recognition to members of the force, including those who had refused to accept bribes, as an encouragement for them to discharge their duties with dedication and honesty.

He disclosed that on March 12, IGP Abdul Hamid would be presenting certificates of appreciation to 60 officers and rank-and-file personnel at 12th Battalion Miri.

“On the same day, 290 people will also be receiving the Pingat Jasa Negara from the IGP,” he added.

Besides that, Sarawak GOF members had also received certificates of recognition for their success in the many operations they had conducted.

These certificates were from the Home Ministry, IGP, Sarawak Commissioner of Police, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and Sarawak Forestry Department.

SAC Khaw also revealed that a total of 109 GOF personnel had been promoted, including from Sergeant- Major to Sub-Inspector, Sergeant to Sergeant-Major, and Corporal to Sergeant.

Of the number, 10th Battalion Sibu has the highest with 48 personnel followed by 111th Battalion Batu Kawa (30), 12th Batallion Miri (18) and Sarawak GOF (13).
