KUCHING: Some 203 participants went bald earlier today in a “Go Bald 2019” campaign in support of children who are fighting childhood cancer.

The participants, 169 of them male, took part in the campaign which was held at Vivacity Megamall.

Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS) assistant manager (events and marketing) Genevieve Tan said the campaign was held to create awareness on childhood cancer and give moral support to the children who had to go through a traumatic experience during treatment.

“The children are scared when they go bald therefore the public showed their support by going bald to support and telling them it is okay,

“The campaign also raised funds to provide sustainable services in caring for childhood cancer patients.

“Our annual target is RM1 million, and today, we raised of RM126,761,” she said.

During the event, those who went bald received a commemorative T-shirt, wristband and free photo print to remember the occasion.

Apart from that, there was SCCS merchandise for sale and the SCCS Monthly Donation Programme sign-up booth where the public can donate monthly to SCCS via auto debit process from a minimum of RM30.

Go Bald is the largest and the first head-shaving charity event in Sarawak and 2019 is its eleventh edition.

The annual event has raised more than RM9 million spanning through four cities and drawing more than 9,800 participants in the last 9 years.

Gone bald for a good cause.
