KUCHING: Police have deployed 2,053 police personnel to 31 parliamentary constituencies for their 15th general election (GE15) assignments to ensure that election process runs smoothly this Saturday (Nov 19).

Sarawak police commissioner Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri who officiated at the flag-off of Human Resource Assistance at Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK) yesterday (Nov 16), said they would be deployed to 28 district police headquarters (IPD).

He said the district police chiefs would brief them on their tasks.

Of the figure, 1,272 are low-ranking officers from IPK, General Operation Force (GOF) 11th Battalion, GOF Brigade headquarters, Kuching Police Training Centre (Pulapol) and Marine Police Force.

He stated that they would be assigned as GE15 officers at the respective IPDs throughout the state.

“While, the remaining will be assigned at their respective formations.

“All of the personnel must be at the polling stations three days before the actual polling day.

“Throughout the election period, all of them must prepare themselves mentally and physically besides having legal knowledge as part of their duties in the field later,” he said.

All officers and personnel are reminded to display a high level of discipline while carrying out their duties as well as taking good care of their health during this COVID-19 pandemic and monsoon season.

In a press conference, Azman assured that the police are committed to enforce the law to ensure that the public safety and order are maintained.

“To date, there are no reports of any incident that pose a threat to the community and the situation is well under control.

“During this campaign period, we only receive reports regarding political parties’ flags, posters and banners being damaged, uprooted and vandalised,” he said.

Also present were Sarawak Deputy Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata and other department heads.
