207 cartons of smuggled beer seized

Police personnel with some of the beer cartons seized from a shop in Lundu, last Tuesday.

KUCHING: Various brands of alcoholic drinks believed to be smuggled were found in a mini market at Lundu at about 11.45 am last Tuesday.

Commander of the Sate Marine Police, ACP Salehuddin bin Mat Zaman said when his men went to check the shop they found 207 cartons of beer containing 4,968 cans. Tax revenue of the beer is estimated at RM13,496.

The shop owner was unable to show documents to prove that tax on the items has been collected. The items were later taken to a police station for further investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act. 1967.
