SARIKEI: The Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) here has arrested 21 men — including a woman — suspected to be involved in drug and substance abuse in an integrated operation conducted around the area on July 20.
Sarikei District police chief, Supt Awang Arfian Awang Bujang said the operation started from 12.01am to 10.59pm with the cooperation of Meradong district police headquarters (IPD).
According to him, it is being carried out simultaneously throughout Sarawak by the NCID.
“From the information obtained as well as sources, we have conducted 12 raids and inspections towards 26 people. Of these, 21 men including two Indonesians and one woman were arrested for various offenses under Section 39A (1), Section 12 (2) and Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 30 (3) of the Poisons Act 1952,” he said when contacted by reporters.
He said the raid also resulted in the confiscation of 12.02g of methamphetamine and 10 Nospan pills.
“We also carry out urine tests on them and 19 of them tested positive for drugs. All the suspects were taken to Sarikei’s IPD for further action,” he said.
