SIBU: A total of 217 positive Covid-19 cases have been detected in Sibu Jaya up until Feb 7, said state Health director Dr Chin Zin Hing.

He noted that the cumulative total was excluding the 629 samples taken through the Covid-19 screening held at Sibu Jaya flat last Sunday.

“The results will be out by tomorrow (Tuesday) for the screening held at Sibu Jaya flat,” he said when contacted on Monday (Feb 8).

Meanwhile, Dr Chin said the 668 samples collected during the recent mass screening held at Sibu Jaya Wet Market has been tested with only 22 samples found to be positive.

“Those who tested positive for Covid-19 have been contacted. We have placed their contacts or close contacts at the quarantine centre in Sibu,” he explained.

He also suggested for Sibu Jaya residents looking to be tested to visit the Sibu Jaya Health Clinic during office hours.

“As this weekend is the Chinese New Year celebration, we will open a screening counter this Saturday for half a day,” said Dr Chin.

Previously, the Sibu Division Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) has issued a statement informing that the standard operating procedure (SOP) in Sibu Jaya will be enhanced with effect for two weeks from Feb 9 to 23.

It said the latest move was taken based on the high positive Covid-19 cases recorded in Sibu Jaya.
