KUCHING: A labourer who raped and sexually assaulted an underage girl here two years ago will spend the next 22 years in prison for his crimes.
Additionally Sessions Court Judge Saiful Bahari Adzmi also handed him five lashes of the cane as penalty.
He found him guilty at the end of the trial’s defence stage here Wednesday, ruling that the prosecution had established a prima facie case against the man.
He was tried on two charges of raping the 14-year-old girl at a park in front of a building in Petra Jaya, around 12 noon and 5 pm on Nov 10, 2022.
The man was also charged with committing sexual assault by asking the victim to perform oral sex on him in a house here, at about 10pm, on Nov 10.
The girl told doctors who had subsequently treated her for abdominal pain at a hospital that she had been raped.
The victim’s sister then made a police report which led to the arrest of the labourer on December 8, 2022 in a village.
A total of seven witnesses were called throughout the defence of the case including a doctor, the victim and three police officers.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohammad Fauzan Zamri prosecuted.
