KUCHING: A total of 220 participants from five states participated in the Inter-school and National Invitation ITF Sarawak Taekwondo championship 2017.
Speaking during the launching ceremony, Minister of Works, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said the competition and championship can help to nurture and produce world class athletes.
“Taekwondo is not only about martials arts. It is also about self discipline, mental and physical health, which in turn would help to produce quality and better generation for our future,” said Fadillah when officiating at the Inter-school and National Invitation ITF Sarawak Taekwondo Championship 2017 at Polycarp Sim Hall of SMK St Joseph here, yesterday.He also hoped that Sarawak can produce world class Taekwondo exponents in the future.
During the function Fadillah also presented a grant of RM3,000 to the Sarawak Taekwondo Club for its activities.
Taekwondo exponents of primary and secondary schools from five states namely Sarawak, Sabah, Melaka, Pulau Pinang, and Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur are taking part in the tournaments.
The objectives of the championship are to promote the important of discipline and character-building through martial arts, to promote the importance of co-curricular involvement by students and to obtain high-curricular points to give benefit and high chance for entry into higher learning institutions and scholarship application, and to select exponents to represent Malaysia in the Cambodia Asia Championship 2018.
