KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 221 new positive Covid-19 cases on Saturday (March 6), bringing the tally to 10,895.
Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) today (March 6) said that of the total positive cases, 79 were recorded in Sibu District, Betong (32), Kuching (17), Kapit (12), Julau (10), Serian (10), Meradong (eight), five cases each in Miri and Sebauh, three cases each in Selangau and Bau, two cases in Pusa, and one case each in Sarikei and Tatau.
On the breakdown of cases, the committee said out of the 79 cases in Sibu District, 48 were individuals screened through active case detection (ACD) of contacts of positive cases, 17 were other screenings at health centres, 13 were symptomatic cases screened at the health centres, and one involved a medical worker at the health facilities.
SDMC said out of the 33 cases reported in Bintulu District, 30 were individuals screened through ACD, and three were symptomatic cases.
The committee said in Betong District, 31 cases involved the Jalan Muhibbah Cluster, and one was a symptomatic case, while of the 17 cases reported in Kuching District, 11 involved the Emperoh Jambu Cluster, five were other screenings, and one was screened through ACD.
In Kapit District, the committee said that 11 were individuals screened through ACD, and one was a symptomatic case, while the 10 cases reported in Julau District all involved the Bukit Tunggal Cluster — a newly declared cluster.
SDMC said this is a community cluster that involved two longhouses in Nangga Lioh and Nangga Sebuntang in Bukit Tunggal, Durin, Julau. The case index for this cluster is a 69-year-old local man who was detected through symptomatic screening at a health clinic on Feb 25.
As for Serian District, the committee said the 10 cases were individuals screened through ACD, while of the eight cases reported in Maradong District, six were individuals screened through ACD, and two involved the Sungai Bakong Cluster.
In Miri District, SDMC said three cases were individuals screened through ACD, one was other screening, and one was a symptomatic case.
The committee said for the five cases reported in Sebauh District, three cases each reported in Bau and Selangau Districts, and the two cases in Pusa District, all these cases were detected through ACD.
Meanwhile, SDMC said for the single case reported each in Sarikei District and Tatau District, they were symptomatic cases.
