KUCHING: Three members of a family pleaded not guilty at the Magistrates’ Court here on Tuesday (March 8) to the charge of cheating 14 people of RM1.5mil.

The accused, aged between 27 and 53, made the plea after 40 charges were read individually to them by an interpreter in court.

Magistrates Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali, Zubaidah Sharkawi and Zaiton Anuar allowed court bail of RM14,500 with one surety each for each of the accused.

The offences were carried out in stages from January 2018 to 2019 at various locations.

The accused, from Selangor, were believed to be acting as investment agents who offered their victims bigger returns for every investment.

However, they failed to pay back the returns, making their victims suspicious.

The accused, represented by their lawyer Simon Siah, also faced similar charges in Selangor.

The court fixed April 19 for date of mention and ordered the accused to report themselves to the Selangor police station twice a month.
