KUCHING: A total of 23 participants — 12 qari, 11 qariah and nine memorisers — will compete at the four-day state-level Quran recital event.
Sarawak Islamic Council chairman Datuk Misnu Taha said it would be held for the 61st time on Feb 28 at Majma Hall, Tuanku Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah, Sarawak Islamic Complex, here.
“The winner of qari and qariah will bring home cash amounting to RM10,000, trophy, accompanying prizes, certificates and umrah packages.
“The winner for the hafazan category will bring home cash amounting to RM4,000, trophies and accompanying prizes as well as certificates (categories 1-20 juzuk) and RM3,000, trophies and accompanying prizes as well as certificates (category 1-10 juzuk).”
He said this when paying a courtesy call on Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud at Demak Jaya on Tuesday (Feb 22) to invite him to attend the event.
Also present during the courtesy call were Sarawak mufti Datuk Kipli Yassin and Sarawak Islamic Religious Department director Ustaz Khalidi Ibrahim.
