BELADIN: The handwork of Beladin’s women received positive demands from Singaporean buyers and have the potential to be marketed to other countries in the world.

Minister of Women, Family & Community Development Dato’ Sri Hajah Rohani Abdul Karim said that after being trained by professionals, their clothing products have achieved international standard which attracted the interests of the foreign buyers.

“Thanks to the International Women’s Federation of Commerce and Industry Malaysia (IWFCI) for their assistance in establishing the Beladin Fashion Centre and to the Rotary Club which assisted us to train our local women to sharpen their sewing skills.

“This is part of our effort to help our women especially the single mother group to generate income as well as putting them on to a higher level,” said Rohani after officiating the opening of Beladin Fashion Centre at Kampung Beladin here, yesterday.

According to Rohani, all the 23 trainees of the centre will be brought to Kuala Lumpur and their handwork will be shown at a gala dinner in conjunction with Women’s Day next month which is expected to be attended by the Prime Minister’s wife, Datin Sri Rosmah Mansor.

Rohani said the idea to establish the fashion centre came after it was realised that there were many talented tailors in Beladin.

“Out of the 100 participants who came for an interview before being accepted as a trainee of the centre, only 23 were chosen as they have shown very nice and smooth handwork,” she said.

According to Rohani, her ministry has an entrepreneurship project where single mothers and low income women are their target group to participate in this project.

Rohani added that the sewing training programme was also part of her ministry’s effort for which she was proud that the women in Beladin are taking part in the programme.

She hoped that other Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO’s) can come out with such a meaningful programme to assist our women especially single mothers to improve their living standard.

During the ceremony, Rohani also presented Minor Rural Project (MRP) grants to some recipients.
